Have you tried the Magnify accessibility tool?

With dual head, second monitor, & magnify he could have a huge zoom view
up all the time. It seems to be a limited window size (maybe 1024x768?),
but if the 2nd monitor res is lower than 1st, zoom x2 would be 200%+ larger.
