Ah, but isn't that why they invented rechargeables? I love my Logitech MX700 that comes with it's own recharger or I can just grab a couple of AAs out of the Rayovac recharger if & when I can't wait.

I have used a Elite & MX700 combo for the last couple of years, and I really like it. I just upgraded to the Laser mouse combo MX3100 primary WS. The mouse uses the new super light Lithium Ion batteries that last so long they can't even be replaced. Works great.

I have owned Logitech cordless mice and keyboards since they came out with the first cordless three button mouse back in 1992... that thing used a single Lithium battery, like a my Cannon A1 camera uses. On the mouse it only lasted about me about 6 months and the battery cost 10 bucks!

I live in an area with a lot of marine band interference, and, consequently, I have never had good luck with range on any cordless product, ...two or three feet is what I expect. Although I have heard people say they use their keyboard in the next room, so some places it must work better.

According to Maxium PC the best gaming keyboard is the Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard

It is corded, but it does light up.
