What other roles are these servers performing? DC's by chance?
I know that Win2k DC's demote File sharing process (SMB, dunno about
DFS) to lowest priority and have a slowness issue with XP clients unless
you tweak TCPDelACK or some such. Had to do so here as I have only 1
server doing DC & file serving though can't find the KB I followed to
diagnose/fix it.
Perfmon is a good place to start so you can see just what is going on.

DFS works. NTFRS replication of DFS works.. But damn, even on "High" it's
freakishly slow.. Maybe something like 100MB-200MB an hour.
