Top of the line HP (Scanjet 7650 or higher; preferably one with document
feeder).  They usually come out to be the fastest (especially for previews)
and have good options for scanning negatives and slides.

High-end Umax and Microtek are great for scanning at higher resolutions
(comparable to a drum scanner but not quite, to send to a press).

Still can't bring myself to just throw it out which is what I should do
now that I have a digital camera. =)
