I hate to admit I have been playing Civ since II. I was never a big fan of III and enjoyed Civ Call to Power (I know it is by a different author, but the game play is quite similar). I had pretty much mastered II and CTP, but I have yet to figure out the secret to IV. I almost always win, but my rating is usually Dan Quayle. Anyone want to share some secrets?
I played the Mediterranean WWII scenario twice. As the allies, I was slaughtered because I really couldn't get into the game until 1943, and Montgomery and DeGaulle had already lost North Africa. As Montgomery, I was able to eliminate all the Axis powers early (according to history) and still was rated Dan Quayle! :( BTW, I prefer the combat resolution of CTP over regulation Civ (as well as the way units are "stacked"). Love the borders concept and flipping of III and IV. I hate the resource idea when I don't have the ones needed and no one will trade. Realistic, but its randomness can be infuriating. I too have often succombed to the "just one more turn" scenario. Overall, my favorite series of games, hands down.
