The Pentium D is a great choice if you live in Alaska. During those long
cold Winter months everybody can gather around the PC to stay warm.
However if you live in Florida the extra energy running it *and* the
extra energy your central air will consume might be a bit much..

If you overclock the living piss out of the 805, you would be close to
any X2 out.
The X2 is clearly superior, but AMD's pricing structure is retarded.
I'm dropping my 4400/4800+ X2 as soon as Conroe debuts...

I should have said, I have an existing PC with a socket 939. I am
looking strictly at the AMD's. :-)

Hello Gary,
Some folks seem to like the Pentium D 805 since it runs 2.66GHz @ 533
FSB.
Most people can hit 3.5 - 3.7 on air, as high as 4.2 on water - quite
a nice deal for ~$130.
That said, it is a Smithfield and puts out quite a bit of heat. Also
have to watch out for
thermal throttling.
HTH
Best regards.
