by calling MS. One can try pulling the original COA off Windows with the Jellybean Keyfinder, but that's hit and miss.
I regularly do clean installs of Windows XP Home OEM on name brand computers using a Microsoft Windows XP Home CD, not a reinstall CD. When I say, "clean install" I meant I format Drive C first. The product on the computer's affixed COA always works. Online activation never works. I always have to call Microsoft and give them those numbers and then they give me the correct numbers to activate. Be prepared to give Microsoft the first 6 digits of the installation code, the Product Key, tell them it is not the original install but a reinstall, the make and model number of the computer and where it was purchased. Microsoft (represented from Taiwan) will do the rest.
