yeah, did a defrag a couple weeks ago. Little to no improvement.
I had my main drive go bad on me back in April, the C drive just completely
disappeared. Ended up installing XP onto the D Drive, which renamed itself
the C drive, and soon after that the original C drive showed up as the H
drive. Thing is, iirc the C and D drives were both half of one large HD, so
these issues with the current C drive could be related to the previous
crash. I have the side of the case off, so heat shouldn't be an issue.
Weird things happen, like my my wireless internet connection will go out.
The only way to get it back is to reboot, then manually disconnect then
reconnect the USB plug for the wireless transmitter/receiver.
The drives are more than 50% full, maybe 80%?
I'll try drive diagnostics.

defrag ?
have you ran drive diagnostics ? almost sounds like drive failing or bad
caps on MB. drive IO can kill performance.
Also how full is the drive, I find they slow down after 50% full.
how dirty is the cpu fan ? dust can cause heat build up.
sorry if these are things you already checked.

At 04:45 PM 8/8/2006, Veech Poked the stick with:
What is the general culprit when a system experiences slowdowns and
stalls? I'm running XP on a P4 3.0 system with 2G PC3200RAM. a couple of
months ago this thing zipped along. Then it started going slower and
slower, taking up to 2 minutes to finish booting up. Now when I do a
simple multi-task thing, such as click on IE while burning a CD in Nero,
it takes up to a minute for the IE screen to load. When it finally does,
it's slow as molasses. Sometimes it freezes, and I have to hit the reset
button. I'm resetting the computer up to 4 or 5 times in a 3 hour
session. Can't be good.
I've run spybot and virus software, and everything is clean. MSCONFIG has
nothing enabled, although that didn't help boot-up time at all. Is it
time to reinstall XP?
I really am anxious to upgrade but I want a Core 2 Duo system with SLI and
there aren't yet any boards available. Don't know if I can hang on till
the end of the year...
