Last night my systemed finished it's burn in (knoppix 5.01). I used
Acronis Universal Restore to get my old image back up and running and
pointed it at the new drivers. It all loaded w/o a hitch. I was glad
to see that the system booted faster than my old amd2000xp.

I have to say if you need to upgrade and wish to keep your old OS, the
easiest way is Acronis. In my situation I've already gone the route
of VMs so the base OS is just the OS w/ A/V and FW, nothing else. All
my software (open office, office, sql etc) run as VMs. Even the video
conversion software. Nero also is on the base OS, but that's so I can
do my video capture as I really dig the capture utility for firewire.

Some things I've noticed run ubber quick. I will be running both
compression / decompression routines to see how things are affected.
BTW, there is a new VM workstation out, (5.2)

Congrats man!!!

This makes my system looks ancient!!!

I am planning on upgrading........but not for a while....... Perhaps in 6
months when I do upgrade, I will look into a decent laptop.

so today I ran out and picked up the c51gm-m w/ the AMD x2 (3800+)
plus 2 sticks of dd2 (1gb) ram to start up with (this is after all
still winxp pro) the board is said to support up to 16gb, but I will
need to get rid of the initial 2gigs ... :| I am planning on pulling
out the heart of my system tonight, (amd2000XP, 1gb) that's been with
me since 3/2002.
