[H] Strange sound problem

I have a Toshiba laptop here with a Yamaha AC-XG audio device in 
it.  If I install the drivers, the sound works perfectly, but when I 
reboot it stops working.  Device Manager shows the device, but the 
Sound applet shows "No audio devices."  I've tried both the driver 
from Toshiba and the one from Yamaha with no change.  I'm thinking 
Windows corruption, but I was wondering if anyone had seen this 
before and had a fix.
