The idea is that you bought a system replete with OS and installed hardware. I can take out any item of hardware from the system and use it elsewhere. Why not the OS, as long as I'm not using it twice? It's

Why not fuel injection systems that allow engines to give 100 miles per gallon of gasoline? Why not miracle cure medicines that assist improvements of health as to where most other expensive medications are no longer needed?

Microsoft does not sell Windows to Dell and other large OEM's with no strings attached. It is sold with a life expectancy of 2 years. Microsoft is behind the 2 year computer. Perhaps that is why Microsoft sells Windows to manufacturers of computers that have a life expenctancy of 2 years for half the price they charge manufacturers of computers that have a 4+ years life expenctancy. Even in news segments concerning the disposal of old computers they have reduced the life expectancy of them to 3 years.

It was a monumental advancement for Microsoft to slow down piracy when they built Windows XP. They were not very concerned with the carrying forward of Windows XP OEM on rebuilds. This is why they allow me to authenticate Windows XP OEM on rebuilds when I use only a few original components (sometimes as little as the original CPU.) From what I have been reading, this will not happen with Visa! With Windows XP OEM, all it takes is a computer technician with the know how (like me) who practically knows every Microsoft Authencitation Officer in India by their first name, + the names of their kids and some their pets name, to migrate Windows XP Home OEM forward with full Microsoft approval. On some calls they even ask me how the weather is here in the US. I concur with the most recent information that it takes an average of 6 minutes to obtain that 54 digit installation key to authenticate Windows XP Home OEM.

If anyone wants to know more ask me, not Microsoft. Microsoft will not give reasons for the stupidity in their authentication process. I can not give reasons, but I can sure guide you through the process to invest 6 minutes on the phone to India and save $90.00 when you migrate Windows XP Home OEM over to a rebuild.

Back to your comment, " I can take out any item of hardware from the system and use it elsewhere. Why not the OS, as long as I'm not using it twice" I can. Can you? Again, according to what I am hearing, with Vista neither of us can. One more reason I will not build new computers with Vista, especially if the OEM version of the most popular edition costs me $180.00 opposed to the $90.00 I paid for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows Millennium and Windows XP Home.

If anyone really believes that Microsoft is in favor of a high performing repairable computer that easily lasts 5+ years and can be built for as little as $650.00 inclucing their Windows operating system, I have some oceanfront property in Arizona I would love to make you a good deal on.
