I recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS system. It is able to handle traffic alerts, but to do so would require adding a fairly expensive traffic alerts receiver. All GPS units have some obsolete map data. It seems the map makers are running a few years behind the real world. I don't know of any simple way that a user could modify the map data.
