I've seen the dx10 demo run on a 7950gt. Do you get all the dx10 features?  No. 
But the demo runs its not like it refuses to run or runs like crap

That helps me out a lot in deciding what to do at this point, system noise 
is a no-no for me because of the audio mixing I do.  Looks like I'll stick 
with dual 7950's in SLI for now..
