Yes, Thane has it right.  

Just as with 2000, addding another controller, (ie, I did it with SCSI)  I had 
to boot with the old and the new in
controllers in, then you can shutdown and just use the new controller....  :)

I did this with an Adaptec IDE RAID controller sometime back with no 
problem.  I put the controller in while leaving the system running on 
it's current IDE controller and installed the drivers for the new 
controller.  Then I moved the drive over to the new controller, added 
the second drive and did the mirroring in the controller BIOS.  It 
worked fine after that.
