but not do anything too advanced.

Like what? If you want to pay for it they will provide you with your very own dedicated Linux or Windows server.

You can pretty much get the feeling that
godaddy is making a bunch of money and just got into hosting to make
money on it but didn't really plan for their growth in that arena.

On the contrary, compared to many other fast track companies, I think they have handled their rapid growth extremely well. They have been hosting as long as they have been a register, and they are constantly expanding their products, and services, as any responsible company should. They have been able to grow fast without compromising their service, and that is not easy to do. Particularly so if you are only using private capital.

so surprised how much faster things happened even basic network stuff
like file uploads.

They do cap downloads at 256Kb for unlimited multiple users, but I upload Gigs of backup images every week, and I can do so faster then COX will allow me to = plus 512Kb.

The only Godaddy service that I haven't been all that happy with is the backorder. It is a very good deal if you just want to monitor domain names... up to a 100 of them, for 18 dollars a year. But unless the domain you want to get is registered to Godaddy you are not going to have much luck on a back order. Snapnames is a better choice for a wide net.
