I would not stripe them. However, I would like to either span (JBODs) them or use them as separate drives. if you span them, you lose all the data if you lose one drive? Maybe I don't understand the technology.

Basically, I want to use this thing for these purposes:

..back up of multiple PCs
..back up of MP3s and Audible.com downloads (I'll still have other HDs in enclosures that will keep the MP3s) ...storage of ripped movies, which I consider nonessential stuff, as I rip from my DVDs and move to my UMPC when I'm traveling...once I've watched it, I'm done with the file.

After ripping over 200 CDs, the thought of redoing that work blows my head open (and I've done it once).

So, I don't need speed, but I have a bunch of dissimilar capacity HDs that are going unused and buying an enclosure for each is not a good solution.
