I've also occasionally seen people using port 2525 for backup SMTP.
The whole blocking thing is really obnoxious...

Many SMTP mail servers now allow use of alternate port 587,

I have several customers who connect via service A, but have their
mail through service B. They can receive mail fine, but when they
try to send, it times out. It appears that the problem is that
service A is blocking port 25 to mail servers other than their
own. Is there a way (other than switching to service A's smtp
server) to get around this?
