I use Skype on a PC (UMPC, that is) to talk to a gf of mine who lives in the cayman islands. All you need is Skype, a PC with mic and speakers, and a broadband connect. It's free. If you want to talk via landlines on one end, there is a small fee, as I recall. I also chat up random babes across the globe this way. :)

Her family is in Canada. Cingular charges $0.20/min to Canada and if you pay them the $3.00/mo for their special international rates service it goes down to $0.18.min (whoopee). For now she has been using those cheap calling cards but it is still not totally convenient. I am thinking of switching over to VOIP for the long distance. WHat has been the experience of the group with these services? What are the differences and advantages/disadvantages that people have found using Skype and Vonage? -- Brian
