Certainly they are essential!

Second battery? If used in tandem prolongs run-time or
at least protects 
your battery investment since neither batt has to be
deep cycled thus 
causing less wear. 3rd or 4th make no sense as they
have no shelf life.

Case? Of course you need a case unless your not moving
the laptop.

Spare PS? If it's a Dell, you can be damn sure you'll
need one since the 
strain reliefs tend to go killing the PS not to
mention the convenience 
of being able to unplug & go with a spare in the above
mentioned case!

Mouse is debatable depending on taste & need, but my
touchpad & pointer 
mice drive me nuts.

The $$$ amounts on these as quoted is dubious, but
likely MSRP (Manf. 
suggested ridiculous price)! ;-)
