I finally got the cloning done. I used the Acronis Emergency Disk to make a bootable CD-RW. It sat there for a good 15 min at 0% complete but I just came back after running errands for a couple hours and it was done. I am using the new cloned drive now and it seems to be perfect.
I don't really trust the SMART stuff either, I read through Google's big HD analysis and it was pretty interesting. For a really good analysis, check out Security Now Episode 81: http://www.twit.tv/sn81 I will run some games and see if the problems persist but it seems to be all good now.
