What about refurbs? I still have and use a pair of Dell D600's I got for only 599 each, and I've seen 'em for 499 or so these days...
Not Core2 or anything, but 14 inch screen, less than 5 pounds, 40 gig drives, CDRW/DVD drive, 512 megs of RAM, and P4 Mobile processor at 1600 Mhz. Wireless b/g built in, ethernet and modem as well. Great for email, surfing and such even if they are not Core2 or Core2 Duo. :) I play original Half Life and Deus Ex on mine on the road all the time. Which is kind of funny. I recall buying new PC's and video cards and such just to be able to play Half Life when it came out, now the laptop does it just fine. :) >>As I think I have mentioned before, I will be traveling to China for 9 >>weeks this summer with some stops in Vancouver before and after.
