I have finally gotten around to building my NAS and have it online happily storing my many gigabytes of files. To maximize its use I want to upgrade my network to gigabit which means I need a switch and a couple cards. There are all the usual suspects, netgear, linksys, d-link, etc.. Are any of them better than the rest? A 5 port switch would probably suffice but 8-10 ports would be prefered all things considered. :-)
And I would be remiss if I did not take the time to say thanks to everyone who guided me along the way to NAS nirvana. :-) I took an old PC, added 4x500M SATA drives, and LSI 150-4 true hardware RAID 5 controller and a beefed up power supply and added NASLite-2 CDD and presto! Instant NAS. Fast, simple and cost effective and best of all 2TB of storage! (Well, 1.5Treally after adding RAID 5 to the mix). Again, thanks to all who took the time to answer my questions. I appreciate it very much. :-) -- -Gary
