two thoughts--
1) I've had similar problems when it was DNS resolution. can you type
in IP addresses into Firefox or IE and have it surf properly then?
(like http://207.46.19.254/ -- microsoft homepage)
2) could there be any odd proxy settings that both IE/Firefox are
picking up somehow? seems unlikely..
guess it could always be remnants of norton causing problems..
