[H] Windows 2003 server RAID questions

I have inherited support on a POS Windows 2K3 server (note saying the 
software is a POS, but the hardware is.)  The thing is setup with two 
RAIDed dynamic hard drives (from what I can understand, this is a 
software RAID 1 setup.)  The second drive has died, and the first is 
beginning to fail.  I'd like to image the functioning drive to a 
backup before I start messing with this system, but I can't get Ghost 
or Acronis to backup the dynamic partitions.  How can I safely backup 
the partitions before trying to rebuild the RAID arrary.

As a second question - am I better off using the software RAID or the 
hardware RAID on the motherboard?
