to either Gateway or Router. If you're connected directly to a modem then

Many ISPs block/filter the 1st 1000 ports but that doesn't mean you can't
get your mail. It just means you can't use someone else's email server on
port 25.
Q3: Bellsouth uses the same server (mail.bellsouth.net) for both inbound
and outbound mail.
Is this normal? I do know that they seem to have extensive spam, junk,
etc, filtering. Perhaps
this is a good thing..... :)
Is it normal? It is for them. Some other ISPs may do this. Some use
pop.isp.com while others use pop3.isp.com for incoming as it's just a
matter of configuration on the ISPs end.
So I check out the "news" server for Bellsouth and find that it is:
(should I choose to do Opera or Agent!)
nxdomain.guide.opendns.com 208.69.32.130
and the server is in San Francisco, CA.
Q4: What's up with this? Are the "news" channels still as polluted as
they were in 1999?
That addy is NOT a UseNet server addy. Most of them are news.isp.com
format & I would use the new Agent 4.x
