Thanks Mike,
I checked out GMail and just may do this. I do have a concern with GMails
requirement about cookies and JavaScript, but I'll read some more. I did
see that GMail is rolling out IMAP for mail. (That should make Carroll Kong
happy!)
So far, I was able to create and "alias" for my new bellsouth inbox. Not
tested yet.
Best,
Duncan

You can achieve email address Independence in a couple of ways.
You can change over to GMAIL and then tell GMAIL to reroute all email it
receives to your current "real" (Bellsouth/ATT) email address.
If down the road you end up switching to another ISP with a new email
address all you need do is tell GMAIL to reroute to your new ISP address.
As far as the outside world is concerned the only email address they will
know about is your GMAIL address.
You have another option available to you.
You can use a disposable/throwaway email address such as those offered
through SpamGourmet (e.g., xxxxxxxxxxxx dot duncan @ spamgourmet dot com
where xxxxxxxxxxxx is whatever unique identifier you want to use - e.g.,
hardwaregroup dot duncaan at spamgourmet dot com).
The main purpose of these disposable email addresses is that it allows you
to better filter and control SPAM.
A side benfit of this email service is that it also allows you to redirect
your email to whatever "real" email address you want to.
Note: CAUTION - <http://spamgourmet.com>spamgourmet.com sometimes
incorrectly ends up on email black lists which might prevent you from
receiving email addressed to these email addresses.
You can find more information at
<http://www.spamgourmet.com>www.spamgourmet.com.
I'm sure there are other solutions which are available to help you reroute
emails from a pseudo email address to your current email address.
