Still de-glitching the new dsl install. For the last two days I am seeing an entry in my router's log that seems to indicate I have an unknown device on my LAN. (the same kind of log I am working with Brother about regarding the printer's print server!) The log entry is:

[info] date/time Access denied to LAN system with MAC address 067075626C69

I know that mac addys are two parts; the UID (067075) and the S/N (626C69).
The UID is suppose to be traceable to a device manf.
I tried to trace this mac addie yesterday. Came up blank. I am running my packet sniffer now to try and see if I can catch this phantom device. (wireshark v0.99.6)

I have traced all my cables and still have the same devices now as I had last week.
1 router, 4 PC's, 1 server, 2 switches

I know what all my nic mac addies are that are in use.
I know what my 3 disabled 3Com on-board nics are (asus m/b).
I have forgotten/misplaced what my 2 disabled GBit nics are (asus m/b)(?), but these are not connected to my LAN anyway.
I know the mac addies of the router's LAN and WAN sides.
I do not know what the mac addy of the dsl modem is.

Do LAN switches have mac addies? If so, what tool can I use to read them?

I do use the MAC Filter in my router. Should I add the LAN-side mac addy of the router to my filter list?

Do applications "create" mac addy's to do some of their work/functions? (was thinking of my eset ras/rac apps that take care of client av/malware?)

I have wireless disabled in the router. Could it still be listening and hearing my microwave, remote phone system, convections oven, shaver, s/w radio? I know this is facetious, but had to ask.

Stumped I am on this one. Getting less happy with this DLink router as time goes by.
Ideas welcome. Thank you in advance.
Best,
Duncan
