Not sure about the cache, but if you delete the
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86" 
folder it removes all printer drivers and then you can re-install the older
driver.  

Pretty common for us at work, we have to "downgrade" to PCL5 drivers fairly
often to fix incompatibility issues.  

PCL6 sucks as far as I am concerned.  :) :)
