I am doing some searching in one of my W2K PCs. It is my gamer. Recently,
I converted it to use the Marvell G-Bit nic. That worked well. PC is
W2KproSP4, fully patched. M/B is Asus A7N8X-E-deluxe w/1013 bios.
But, when I look in the CP/DM/Network Adapters I find these 3 mystery items
that I can not delete/uninstall (I have them disabled-Red X-ATM):
Direct Parallel (raspti.sys)
Infrared Modem Port (rasirda.sys)
Infrared Port (rasirda.sys)
This machine does not have a modem. Any/all IR selections in bios are
disabled. IR has never been used in this m/b's life (8yrs). There is
nothing connected to the IR pins on the m/b. I am getting ready to
re-check the bios again.
I've googled the driver files and they appear to be valid. Any attempt to
uninstall any of these 3 items fails with a msg that "This item may be
needed to boot the PC."
Ideas as to where to peek to remove these 3 items will be greatly
appreciated. And/or any other details about them will be helpful.
