What's your case? Most (all?) of the 680/780i designs I've seen made pretty
extensive use of heatpipe coolers. If your case uses an inverted mount, like
a number of Lian Li cases do, those heat pipes don't work worth a damn. They
supposedly have a wick inside to allow for inverted operation, but on my
680i (before I replaced it with a wonderful P35), I had stability problems
that were heat related until I went water (and some after, but that's 680i
for you). I strongly believe it was due to heat caused by ineffective
heatpipes when in my inverted-design Lian Li case.
