Man,
I went along with a ladyfriend of mine to look at getting her a PC.
She's had the previous one for 8 friggin years! Her needs are fairly
simple but she has cash....
She ended up picking a Gateway...with a 2.66 quad-core Intel, 4 GB of
RAM, 750 GB HD, DVD, card-reader, 19-inch monitor, 64-bit Vista Home,
All-in-one printer, for a grand.
Of course, it was hard to let her get a store bought, but I live in a
different city and didn't want to build her one cause then I'd have to
support it! And Vista home? Geez....but the quad-core and 64-bit OS with
4GB of ram and 750 GB of ram ought to carry her for another 8 years!
Damn..her PC has better inwards than mine (who knows what mobo is in
there). The vidcard is an ATI 2400HD (or whatever they are called).
Pretty good enough for her.
One thing was curious...the unit came with little speakers that have a
USB plug on them as well as a regular stereo plug. She had old speakers
with the stereo plug...but that pair had a bigger subwoofer and seemed
as if they'd be better for sound. But I could not get them to work in
Vista...whereas the ones with the USB plug and stereo did. Please don't
tell me that Vista requires special speakers????????
I have to admit that I was sort of groovin on the Vista
interface.....sort of has me wanting to drop in a Quad-core and 64-bit
vista here, and up the ram.
