I dunno. Some of the older servers under my control could be upgraded--but
we won't spend the time or money to do it when the more logical solution is
replace the entire server. I think if a business is so cash strapped that
they can't replace an old, overloaded, likely out-of-warranty box with
something new, upgrading to a CPU that's 9% faster isn't going to help.

On the 2.8 to 3.06 I agree with you... that would be me, just because I want the fastest. But from a business point of a view the 2.4 to 3.06 would make a lot of sense. Of course, you are thinking from a IT point of view, while I am thinking from a management, and owner point of view.

Thanks everybody for your input! It has been very helpful.

I ordered a matching set of 4GB DDR2 for 75 bucks so I am set with 8GB. I am going to hold off on the board a little longer and see if that new 3.0 processor pops up in the beginning of Q3. But I am ordering the Gateway this holiday weekend.... or by Tuesday at the latest... I look for a bargain over the weekend.

The Gateway reminds me of when VCRs first started coming out digital, they were loaded with features, capabilities, options, and amenities. You could use my Toshiba with stereo microphones, and it had a beautiful blue LED countdown display! I use to use my Toshiba as a tape deck with my stereo for high quality audio. But the feature sets rapidly disappeared as the market grew, and became more competitive. Soon everything was plastic, on screen setup, so nothing had tactile buttons, and few features.

The Gateway reminds me of that expensive Toshiba VCR, full of stuff that will not be offered again. I still have that Toshiba, and it still works fine.
