For what possible reason would DRIVER based control of fan speeds vs temps make sense? This should be implemented at the firmware level, period. Perhaps driver override, but only within pre-defined allowable temperature windows.
I know both manufacturers have had issues with this particular issue. It just baffles me that they'd implement fan control in SOFTWARE.
