Using Vista? It has pretty simple built-in whole-system backup capabilities.
(supposedly the backup format is to VHD--Microsoft's virtual machine hard
disk format, meaning you could bring up the system in a VM if you wanted to)

Otherwise, I'd suggest Acronis TrueImage.
