The Q9650 is finally available at retail, so it is time for me to order up the rest of the parts for my new build. This new build, along with my old trusty dual 3.06 Xenon will be my two primary computers.

It also means it is time to Ebay some stuff. I am going to have three boards, processors, and ram to auction off. I have a dual PIII I am going to sell for sure, but I can't make up my mind about which one of the remaining two to keep.

One is a P4 2.4 with 3Ghz of Kingston PC3200 RAM in a Intel 865PERL and the other is a AMD Semperon 3400 in a ASUS K8N-E Deluxe board with 1.5 GB of Kingston PC3200. I would like to keep one of these to use in a media box but I can't decide what is the best choice.

My dilemma is that the P4 3.4 is the better processor by a wide margin, but the ASUS K8N-E is a much better media center board. The P4 is going to be far better at encoding but it runs hot, and the Asus motherboard is far superior as a media center, having been designed for the task.

If I kept the Semperon setup, will it be fast enough to play back HD, and blue ray? The P4 will be fast enough to do the above, but will it be fast enough to record HD?

Any and all comments appreciated.
