Thank you very much for all your patience and suggestions. It is truly
appreciated.
The new toy is running, but SO quiet, I'm not sure it is running!
But, yes, it is burning trons! That is the good news.
I find that this Asus P5Q3 now uses AMI bios. Hmm. I was always a Phoenix fan.
New learning........
No problem. Got there, been there, diddled a bit to do basic localization.
The funny part is that I can no longer use my Pause/Break key to freeze the
screen/process so I can fully read the screen. When I press the
Pause/Break key, the PC just shuts down!!!! How Wuude!!
LOL!
It now appears that the Sabrent SATA/IDE converter cards really only work
with hd's. I am running around in circles trying to get the dvdrom
recognized on a SATA channel. I did get it recognized once, but now it is
back in the ether again! I will now push it back to the lone PATA/ide port
on the m/b to see if it is recognized.
This is now really slimy because I am blindly testing the non-documented
jumpers on the board and the relationship with the CS and MA settings of
the connected device. So far, one works, one is flakey. I have 4 more
cards just in case!
I am getting a good JMicron msg during post about nothing installed. I
chose to NOT use the JMicron SATA ports because everything I read indicated
that JMicron ONLY works with hard drives. It does NOT work with cdroms
and/or dvdroms (and/or burners).
I am running, quietly, the cpu is 104F-106F w/stock Intel Nidec HS, running
at 3.0GHz on a 1333 FSB. Ram reads as 2047MB. ATM, this is all good!
Thank you everyone! The collective does rule!
