My cousin just had a problem with his Xbox and HDMI. He was in the middle of playing a game when the screen went black and he got the infamous "invalid format" message. A lot of other people have reported this, but in every case I've looked at it was either a mismatch between the resolution the TV can support and the Xbox is putting out or the rare TV that is incompatible with the Xbox over HDMI. But I've never heard of it happening in the middle of playing.
