7200.11 series 1.5TB firmware, an upgrade supposedly available to fix the problem but you have to ASK rather than just download the fix, BS! Symptoms were drive freezing/pausing (read: drive going offline)

http://technologyexpert.blogspot.com/2008/11/seagate-releases-firmware-fix-for.html

"Some Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB hard drives may show uncharacteristic operation when used with Mac and Linux operating systems in multi-drive configurations. Users may experiences pauses in video streaming applications or a dropped drive from RAID arrays. Customers seeing these symptoms should contact Seagate Technical Support for a firmware upgrade."

This in addition to some gaff with 7200.11 series drives & cache size due to firmware issues:

So 3 7200.11's & 1 7200.10 (working fine) later I am jumping ship!

1T & 1.5(T?) is a lot bigger than I need. Were the BIOS issues in machines, or the drive firmware? I'd Google, but I think I'd get too many hits.

Are Hitachi's still good? I ordered a D7K1000 instead of the Seagate 7200.11 1TB after reading about BIOS issues with the 1.5GB models.
