Just a quick update on some of the things I have found out about HDMI audio. First, the Yamaha receiver I purchased (and MANY others) does not utilize the HDMI audio signal at all! It only passes it on to the HDTV. This seems like a real waste since most HDTVs only process STEREO sound. I found in the manual that to have the receiver process the audio, you need to use either RCA cables, digital optical or digital coax cables. What is the point? Second, as Anthony mentioned, there are known issues with; 1) Comcast cable boxes, and, 2) ATI video cards with HDMI ports. They advertise dolby 7.1 sound, but I was surprised at the number of people complaining that they cannot get it to work at all. Lastly, I have a suspicion that my HDTV cannot process the HDMI audio signal. So far, I have been unable to get any sound even with direct HDMI connections, from my PC, cable box, or DVD player.
