My primary PC is a Q9650 on a ASUS MAXIMUS II with 8GB of Cosair DDR2 800 RAM with two ASUS EAH4870 video cards. I am running three hard drives, a WD Velociraptor, a Seagate 500GB and a Maxtor 300GB all SATA II, plus a DVD burner, CD Burner and floppy I have couple of USB self powered hubs with a scanner plugged into one of them. Power supply is PCP&C 750 watt silencer. I dual boot XP64 and Vista 64. Vista 64 is my primary OS. I use three monitors, a 30 inch on one EAH 4870 and two 24 inch on the other EAH4870. If I want to play game I boot into XP64 because I have Crossfire running which does not support multimonitor and screws up my setup every time I switch to it in Vista 64. In Vista 64 I am doing 2D and my video cards are barely doing anything. I rarely play a game.

This setup has been running since December. This morning I turned on my monitors and discovered the PC shut down on it's own over night. I booted up and discovered that I had lost my two 24 inch monitors. I then booted into XP32 and discovered the same thing. Then I pulled off the cover and could see two all the fans working and two red lights illuminated on the card that wasn't working. I called ASUS who tells me it is a power issue. That my 750 watts is not enough for my setup, they say I need 800 ... which I disagree with. Besides this PCP&C probably is capable of putting out more then 750. But in my setup I can not possible be using this much power doing what I am doing.

In any case I am thinking of testing by hooking up a second PS just to the bad video card and seeing if that changes anything.... anybody see anything wrong with doing that?

thanks
