Yup, the intel drivers can handle rotate, that's how they get convertable
tablet PCs to work ;)

However, If you have multiple monitors connected to the system, they will
all inherit the rotation. This annoyed me intensely when I discovered it. I
wanted my tablet set to portrait and my 24" monitor landscape next to it.
Not possible with the Intel chipset/drivers. It is possible with ATI and
Nvidea graphics though.

Getting a monitor that actually supports pivoting is useful though, as when
you rotate it, the display will automatically change. Saves you having to go
into the display properties or the graphics control app to change things
manually.

Viewsonic support this in their graphics or pro monitors, though I don't
think they do with their lifestyle, home or gaming sets.

Just looked, my Dell laptop with built-in Intel Chipset video has a "rotate"
option in the drivers.... :)
