I'm using a DGCLF2 Atom 330 board with OSX,  it works beautifully and is
a very decent net browsing station.

a Mac Pro is an 8-core/16 thread Xeon rig with 6 channels of DDR3, so  
yeah, it takes a hell of a lot to outrun one when it's in its comfort  
zone.

however a fast i7 box will keep up with or outrun the "cheaper" quad  
core Mac Pro implementation... whilst likely being cheaper.
