I don't even patch unless I am effected directly with the issue. I do my service packs though. Been fine for years. What's my secret? I will not use Microsoft for email or web and I am behind a router. I know people say 'omg you don't do what you are supposed to - run this security suite and patch everyday or you will get viruses'. Guess what. I'm clean and doing fine. Can everyone run like this? Maybe not but I am sure the more savvy users here can.
