I found Joomla to have a steep learning curve and felt that Drupal was a lot easier to learn. Joomla seems to have a lot more plugins but many are not free.

There are also alternatives to complete page editing in the form of CMS' like Joomla. Look & feel is setup with templates & GUI then you only have to manage the content in blog style.
