I have not found a worthwhile PCI-E to Sata card yet. Most of them seem to use
garbage buggy
chipsets. If you are doing any type of software raid, I recommend the Dell
SAS6/iR with
fanout cables. If you want to go external, the above mentioned will work. I'm
not sure
if the SAS6/iR supports port multipliers.
