If using a program like ImgBurn does not list the info for a blank, then it sounds
like a dead drive. The drive is rated to 16X on DVD+R SL cording to NEC's site:

I'd upgrade or even samegrade the firmware before I gave up:

Lastly never use any media except Taiyo Uden for SL & Verbatim Datalife (Singapore)

It does not matter what burner program I am using, I have tried 3. I
have a dual boot machine 64 bit Win7/Vista and the same problem exists
in both OS's which rules out a setting or some other software problem.
Anybody have any ideas... or is it time for a replacement?
