I think that begs the question...what are the real requirements? I could see there perhaps being different solutions for different needs--basic remote admin vs. remote assistance vs. remote console (think IMPI/DRAC/iLO) vs. working from home/teleworker, etc.
Frankly, excluding the obvious remote KVM, I'm a huge fan of RDP. One little tweak makes already great performance even better, and the multiple monitor support available with W7/2K8 R2 (NOT the same as "span" mode) is truly spectacular when teleworking. As an admin, I like the fact that it's built into Windows (all server and client business/pro or better) and controllable via group policy. But, it certainly isn't the best solution for all remote needs.
