I now use Fiber Optic service. I am not up on all the terminology yet,
but I know I am full Fiber to my ONT (outside wall next to my
Watt-meter). From the ONT is a single CAT5E cable to a terminal block
(jack) in my "server" room. The cable from this jack goes to my chosen
router. My 1Gbps LAN Clients just got a giant boot in the butt! This
upgrade is a keeper!
The new speed is blisteringly fast. I upgraded from 1.5M/512 xdsl.
(Good buy ATT!)
Thank you to all List members that answered my often pedestrian
questions during my 'Due Diligence' research.
My last 'speed test' showed 51.5M/51.3M (synchronous). I pay $69.99/mo
for my new toy!
.
Yes, it is the new EPB FIOS service. http://wwww.epbfi.com
I now read that my new ISP offers the fastest broadband service in the
USA. I read that they offer 1Gbps synchronous service (FTTH). It is
pricey! $349.99/mo.
Happy with what I have waited 40 years for. 40yrs ago I played with
fiber the size of a #2 pencil lead. Today, the magic fiber is smaller
than one of my gray hairs! Amazing! (saved samples!)
Again, thank you for all your comments, suggestions, and, counsel.
Best,
Duncan
