I was pretty sour on W8 until finding StartIsBack (there are others, but they 
had quirks that bugged me). The new task manager and file copy dialog are very 
nice. That, coupled with SMB 3.0, is probably enough to get me to move my 
primary-use systems to it over the coming month or so.

That would be the smartest thing they could do.  I'm willing to bet
