Office 2007 SP2 made huge strides in Outlook performance with moderate/large size data files. It's now quite fast - I don't even bother cleaning out my inbox anymore.

Before I quit using OUTLOOK for email I had these really fat PST files...as they were full of emails what had lots of file attachments. It was a pig and compacting didn't help.
